Why choose a portable medical refrigerator?

12/24 V and 220 V power options

  • 12 V or 24 V DC: vehicle power during transport, where supported.
  • 220 V AC: mains power at a pharmacy, clinic or laboratory, directly or through the specified adapter.
  • Backup power and automatic switching: availability depends on the model and configuration.

Check the actual input ratings, supplied cables and adapters, and the procedure for switching power sources. Plan for loading, unloading and any period when the vehicle is parked or disconnected.

Maintaining +2 to +8 °C in transit

For vaccines whose instructions specify refrigerated storage, the usual range is +2 to +8 °C. Other products may require different conditions. Always follow the product manufacturer's current storage and transport instructions. Choose equipment rated for the expected ambient conditions and monitor the temperature throughout the journey. Some refrigerator models also offer freezing, but that does not make freezing suitable for every medicine or vaccine.

Active refrigerator or insulated transport container?

  • Portable medical refrigerator: active temperature control while powered, within the manufacturer's operating limits. Check suitability for your route and load.

The two approaches can be combined for vehicle transport and the final handover. The complete process, including transfer between containers, must meet the required temperature conditions.

Capacity and portability

Choose usable capacity for the shipment size, packaging and route. Check external dimensions, weight, handles and safe positioning in the vehicle. Leave the clearances and internal airflow space specified by the equipment manufacturer.

Temperature monitoring during transport

Use an appropriate temperature monitoring device for each transport container. A temperature data logger records conditions during the journey and supports reporting. Check probe placement, recording interval, calibration documentation and access to the readings or alarms.
