Class II biological safety cabinets for laboratories

A biological safety cabinet creates a controlled work zone and helps protect the operator, sample and environment from biological aerosols. This category includes LaboGene ScanLaf Class II cabinets for microbiology, clinical, pharmaceutical, biotechnology and research laboratories.

Sirius is a compact cabinet with 70/30 airflow, a 470 mm work depth and two front-access options: a 200 mm open working aperture or a front screen with arm ports. Minerva is a fully enclosed aerosol-tight cabinet with fixed front gloves and a side transfer air lock. Mars and Mars Pro are available in 900, 1200, 1500 and 1800 mm working widths. Mars B2 1200 is intended for processes that require all filtered air to be exhausted. Final pricing depends on configuration, installation and connection requirements.

Type A2 versus Type B2

Class II Type A2 Mars and Mars Pro cabinets use 70% recirculation and 30% filtered exhaust. They suit many routine microbiological processes when the protocol does not require 100% exhaust.

Class II Type B2 Mars B2 exhausts 100% of the filtered air and must be connected to an external exhaust system. Ventilation capacity, installation location and engineering conditions should be verified before ordering.

A biological safety cabinet is not the same as a clean-air laminar flow cabinet or a chemical fume hood. Their intended use, airflow patterns and protection functions differ, so selection should follow the risk assessment and laboratory protocol.

LaboGene ScanLaf ranges

  • Minerva — hermetic Class II cabinet with a fully enclosed chamber, fixed front gloves and a side transfer air lock.
  • Sirius — compact Class II cabinet with 70/30 airflow and two front-access options.
  • Mars A2 — Class II cabinet with dual HEPA filtration, 70/30 airflow and 900–1800 mm working widths.
  • Mars Pro A2 — triple-filter Class II construction in 900–1800 mm widths.
  • Mars B2 1200 — Class II Type B2 cabinet with 100% exhaust and mandatory external exhaust connection.

Mars and Mars Pro comply with EN 12469. Selection should consider working width, number of operators, materials handled, operating mode, room constraints and maintenance access.

Frequently asked questions

Which safety classes are available?

This category includes Class II Type A2 and Type B2 biological safety cabinets plus the hermetic Minerva containment system with a physical barrier.

When is Minerva selected?

Minerva is intended for processes that require a fully enclosed aerosol-tight chamber, work through fixed gloves and material transfer through a side air lock. Suitability is determined by risk assessment.

How does Mars Pro differ from Mars?

Mars uses dual HEPA filtration, while Mars Pro has a triple-filter design. Both ranges are Class II Type A2 and use 70/30 airflow.

Is an external exhaust required?

It is mandatory for Mars B2. Connection requirements for A2 models depend on the room design and manufacturer instructions.

Which sizes and versions are available?

Sirius has a 470 mm work depth and a compact 600 × 690 mm footprint. Mars and Mars Pro are offered in 900, 1200, 1500 and 1800 mm versions; Mars B2 is listed in a 1200 mm version.

How can I get a price?

Send the required model and installation conditions. We will confirm the configuration and prepare a current quotation.
