Laboratory freeze dryers for lyophilization

A laboratory freeze dryer removes moisture from pre-frozen material under vacuum. The process produces a dry product without melting the ice first; the required cycle depends on sample properties, freezing temperature and the target residual moisture.

Bench-top and floor-standing systems

The LaboGene ScanVac CoolSafe 4–15 L range covers compact Basic, Pro, Touch and Superior bench-top configurations. Floor-standing CoolSafe 95/55-80 Superior Bulk and Vial systems are available for larger loads. Chambers, manifolds, shelves, trays and vial stoppering are selected for the specific process.

Key selection parameters

  • condenser temperature and compatibility with the product freezing point;
  • condenser ice capacity and expected load per cycle;
  • ultimate vacuum and a compatible pump type;
  • sample format: flasks, trays, chamber, vials or shelves;
  • requirements for shelf control, parameter logging and stoppering.

Configuration and related equipment

A freeze dryer operates as a system, so the pump, chamber, manifold and accessories must be compatible. For solvent removal without producing a lyophilized product, see vacuum concentrators. Return to the full freeze-drying and vacuum-concentration range.
