Dewar vessels and equipment for specialised cryogenic storage

Choose a Dewar vessel by its intended load: a reserve of liquid nitrogen, cryovials, cryoboxes or straws for reproductive programmes. Equal vessel volume does not mean equal sample capacity. Start with the sample format, storage arrangement and access frequency, then compare individual models.

Information for selection

  • Specify container type and dimensions, current sample count and future capacity.
  • Confirm which racks, canisters, lids and sensors are included in the offered configuration.
  • Compare nitrogen holding times under equivalent test conditions; a working routine with repeated access requires separate assessment.
  • Plan placement, filling access and a nitrogen level checking procedure.

Documents before ordering

Request the exact model manual, included equipment list and compatible accessory specifications. Check nitrogen holding performance, sample capacity and monitoring functions together with their stated conditions. System documentation and local procedures should match the intended use.

Configuration, pricing and procurement

For a quotation, specify the required configuration, number of instruments, installation city and services needed. Agree options, consumables, commissioning and staff familiarisation separately. Documentation, delivery times and warranty terms are specified in the quotation and contract. See the model page for its current price or quotation request option.

Questions before selection and procurement

Is volume alone enough to choose a vessel?

No. Sample storage requires a compatible system of containers, racks or canisters, neck opening and loading arrangement. Capacity in litres is not the same as capacity in cryovials or straws.

When is monitoring needed?

When the process requires deviation alarms, temperature records or nitrogen level supervision. Verify the functions of the selected model and the staff response procedure.

Can the same vessel be used for transport?

Check the specific model documentation for transport use. For sample shipments, review dry shippers; for moving liquid nitrogen itself, review transport vessels.

What information is needed for selection?

Provide sample format, required capacity, access frequency, desired refill interval and recording requirements. Include existing rack part numbers if these need to be retained.
