Vacuum concentrators for laboratory samples

A vacuum concentrator lowers the solvent boiling point and accelerates its removal from samples. In centrifugal systems, rotation helps keep material in the tubes and reduces foaming or bumping during concentration.

LaboGene ScanVac and ScanSpeed systems

  • MaxiVac Alpha and Beta — automated systems for different volumes and vacuum-concentration tasks; the Beta configuration also supports low-temperature processing and freeze drying;
  • MiniVac Alpha and Beta — compact centrifugal concentrators for smaller samples;
  • ScanSpeed 32 and 40 — centrifugal systems whose capacity depends on the selected rotor and tube format.

Selection criteria

Important factors include solvent type and quantity, material compatibility, initial and final volume, tube format, rotor capacity, temperature regime, required vacuum and compatibility with the pump and trap. Vapours that may damage the pump require an appropriate cold trap or other protective component.

Vacuum concentration or freeze drying

Concentration is used to reduce sample volume or remove solvent. If the aim is a dry, stable product from pre-frozen material, consider laboratory freeze dryers. All related components are grouped under freeze drying and vacuum concentration.
