EMSAS EPS 10 is a water-bath plasma thawer for blood banks, hospital transfusion services and laboratories. It is designed for the controlled preparation of frozen plasma in sealed bags for subsequent use. The unit provides a dedicated thawing workstation, from loading the basket to completion of the selected programme.
The 20 L bath accommodates up to four compatible bags at a time. Water circulation supports heat transfer around the load, while microprocessor-based PID control maintains the selected temperature. A removable basket, timer and drain valve support everyday operation.

Where and how EPS 10 is used
Blood banks and blood centres
Controlled thawing of fresh frozen plasma after storage. EPS 10 can form part of the blood-component preparation area before issue for clinical use, following the facility’s approved procedure.
Hospital transfusion departments
Preparation of plasma for planned and urgent requests from clinical departments, including surgery, obstetrics and intensive care. This is a hospital blood-bank workflow; clinical decisions about the use of a component remain with the medical team.
Medical and research laboratories
Handling plasma in sealed bags when a laboratory method requires controlled thawing or warming in a water bath. Settings, bag format and load are selected for the specific laboratory process.
Benefits for everyday operation
- Prepare several bags together. The four-bag basket supports small-batch work in one unit. Actual loading depends on bag dimensions.
- Water circulation. Moving water supports heat transfer around the bags and throughout the load.
- Controlled bath temperature. PID regulation and an NTC sensor maintain the selected bath temperature. The factory setpoint is +37 °C.
- Convenient loading. The removable stainless-steel basket helps staff load and retrieve bags and access the bath for cleaning.
- Cycle planning. A timer, delayed start and automatic programme completion help organise the sequence of work.
- Practical maintenance. The drain valve makes the bath easier to empty. The heater sits in a separate compartment, without direct contact with the water or bags.

Planning the thawing process
Temperature and duration. The operating range is ambient temperature +5 °C to +45 °C. These are the equipment’s technical limits; the setting for a particular component follows its instructions and the facility’s procedure. Thawing time depends on starting temperature, volume, bag shape and the number of bags loaded.
Preparing for routine use. Verify and validate the cycle with the actual load. The working procedure should address temperature checks, protection of bags and ports from water, compatible protective overwraps and bath cleaning. Advice on equipment validation can be requested separately.
Capacity and compatibility. The 20 L figure is the water-bath volume. Check your bag dimensions and shape against the basket before selecting the unit. Other blood components, cell products or container types require separate confirmation of compatibility with the manufacturer’s instructions.
Choosing EPS 10 and preparing an enquiry
Consider EPS 10 for a workstation using water-bath thawing, a basket and loads of up to four bags. Assess the number of bags per shift, peak demand and the validated cycle duration. Basket capacity alone does not establish hourly throughput.
If your process requires silicone pockets to isolate bags from water, compare EPS 10 with EMSAS EPT 6, which uses a different loading system. See the plasma thawer category for other options.
